Highlights and lowlights of 2012

2012 has been a great experience for me and I can't wait till 2013. I've made new friends and have really enjoyed P.E this year and other activities. I have learnt a lot this year and have definitely furthered my education. I have learnt lots more about Maori culture and also learnt some new games like ki o rahi and pukana.
PhotobucketPhotobucket

Highlights of 2012.
I liked the inter class sports except a few sports. My favourite thing this year were Friday fun and doing art like mosaics and matariki panels. Being able to use my iPod in class and being able to listen to music. Another thing I like was camp and getting new experiences.

Lowlights of 2012.
The thing I didn't like in P.E are rippa rugby and cross country. I didn't enjoy making or writing speeches at all and that was probably the worst piece of work we had to do. Picking up rubbish and doing worksheets.

Overall it been a pretty good year for me and I've had lots of fun. I'm looking forward to next year and learning and doing new things.

Catching waves

The heat waves shot through the small batch like a bullet. We had been in the small town for around 2 days. The waves lightly crashed against the soft wet sand. "Looks pretty good out there" my brother said. I nodded in agreement. "Well then lets go" I said.

We layed there gently bobbing on the water, upon our boards. "Lets move in so we can catch a wave at the right time" I said. We both paddled with composure and were now about 30 metres from the shoreline. Then in a flash a decently sized wave rose behind me "Yes!" I shouted. I lay flat on my stomach waiting for my fate, suddenly a green salty curl lifted me up and shot me skimming amidst the waves at such a speed, salty liquid shot into my eyes. I was now closing in on shore when the worst thing happened, I had got caught up in the adrenaline rush, I had leaned to far foward and the tip of the board plummeted into the sand beneath the water, flipping me fowards and filling my mouth with unpleasent grey grains. I stood up and felt a sharp pain in my ribs where the board had jabbed me. I looked back over my head towards the waves and spotted my brother laughing his head off. "Shutup" I shouted with grief.

We arrived back at the batch and had settled for a game of pool. My ribs still ached but at least I beat my dad at pool. I couldn't be bothered taking off my wetsuit when I got back, but eventually got persuaded by my mum in a yelling manner to take it off. http://www.public-domain-photos.com/ocean/waves-4-4.htm

Outlook for Someday reflections

I've made this movie along with 3 other students in my class. We have entered this movie into channel 7s competition called the 'outlook for some day' which is getting students to make short films about sustainability.  My group and I made our short film on mind pollution, which is basically what electronics and other modern things are doing to our brains.  We came across this idea when we were discussing possible ideas for our film with Ms Tito.  Here is our film by:  Lachie, Reilly, Jackson and Jorge enjoy!

Reflections:

Something that I learned from this project that I did not know before was how to edit using iMovie and how to digitally insert public domain pictures into a green screen background. I also learnt a great deal about what sustainability means.  I've also learnt how to put legal pictures into a film and that you have to acknowledge where they came from.  During the making of the film I learnt to be more organised especially with the script.`

The part of this project that was most challenging for me was writing the script in time for the deadline, keeping some of the other kids settled while filming.  Managing my time and staying on subject and not going random when I write the script.  Keeping a straight face while acting and using editing equipment and other electronic equipment.

The part of this project I found most rewarding was finding out more about my friends and having lots of fun.

If I had to do another Outlook for Someday movie, the things I would do differently are:  be more organised with my script and possibly choosing different people to work with.  Try not to get as much help from the teacher.

English premiere league

The English premiere league was founded in 1992 and began with 22 teams. Although through out the year there has been some dominant teams, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and arsenal.

In my opinion I think Manchester United is the strongest team and not just cause I support them but because the have very strong players, a good manager and good teamwork.

What the new players bring to the team:
Buttner:Good strength, agility and attacking speed

Van persie:Has a good strike, good dribbler, attacking player and excellent free-kick tacker

Powell:good with long range shots, technically good at passing and brings pace to the team.

I hope you enjoyed this post there will be more coming

Golden boot

We had just lost the final of the western suburbs tournament over a dodgy decision by the ref to award the opposing team a penalty. 2 minutes from full times the sky opened up and began pouring down on us as we trudged to the clubrooms feeling hard done by.

I was injured just 3 games in the tournament as I had managed to sprain my ankle in a dirty tackle. I had already put in 12 goals in the 3 games, but because of my injury I was ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

The award ceremony began and us, the Tawa K9s were called up first as runners up and were given some feeble chocolate fish, and I was in no mood for sweets. Then came up the winners, Western Academy 1. Everyone in my team thought I had the golden boot secured. "and the golden boot award goes to Lachlan Hill" I was delighted, not only had I won the golden boot but I managed to retain the golden boot award and the fact that I managed to score enough in just 3 games.

I slowly limped out of the club rooms feeling a sense of pride and happiness. Then my heart drooped as I saw the rain still pouring down, I groaned.

321 fun! Can it be a Gannet?

3 key ideas
The department of conservation have come up with an idea to create concrete gannets, so that they will come back to Mana island.
The gannets were made in a workshop, and some Ngati Toa School students painted them so that they look real.
Gannets like to rest on clifftops so they named the gannets, and put them near a cliff edge.

2 ways it relates to sustainability.
All introduced animals have been removed to prevent them from attacking the birds and to keep them alive.
Volunteers have planted hundreds of thousands of different plants, for the birds to nest under.

1 lightbulb moment or question.
Did a lot of gannets, stay or just some, or none.

Hostage

I woke up with a jolt and a horrible pain in my back. I lay there still on the ground daring not to move, just staring into pitch black. My feet and hands were tied together, what felt like cable ties. I managed to wriggle my bloody left hand out of the cable tie, "Stop! moving you brat" screamed what sounded like a deep Russian voice, then the room fell back into silence.

                                                           2 HOURS EARLIER

My aunt Silvia and uncle Bill were just getting dressed when I walked into the foul smelling room. "hey"I said, "Where are you going all snazzied up to?" "oh um... we're just going out on a date". "Oh ok well have fun". "thanks" she says as she saunters out the room with uncle Bill closely following behind.

I let out an almighty yawn and took a quick glance at the clock 2:34am. I managed to lift my self on the leather couch which was now all crinkled. I started to walk to my bedroom when suddenly a tranquiliser dart comes out of nowhere, and enters my neck rather rudely, and I was out like a light.

                                                                   PRESENT

The paper bag was quickly ripped of my head and revealed a bright light blinding my eyes as I tried to adjust to the new surroundings. "Get him!" the mysterious Russian man yelled fiercely. Sweat trickled down my forehead as a swift fist clobbered me right in the gut, "Tell us what you know!" a different man shouted "w-what?" another punch, this time in the ribs, "Tell us what you know about M15!" Then everything went black again.

The legend of Rahi

Rahi Tuta kahina was married to Tiarakura Pakewai. But one day a despised group of enemy Iwi of fairy people, came and kidnapped Tiara.

Te puhuru cast a spell to make the forest impenetrable so that no could track them. Rahi and his family made a huge kite that could carry people (some people thing that Moari were the first pilots) then Rahi flew into the air in pursuit for Tiara's captures.

Tiara's captures soon realizes that Rahi is closing in so Puhuru cast a spell that put 2 suns in the sky to burn Rahi, it worked Rahi's kite burnt and he fell to the ground.

The forest was soaked dry, Rahi was dehydrated very quickly. But now Everything was dry and withering and Rahi had nothing to track Tiara with, but was still determined to find her.

The ngarara then changed its plans and started to circle Rahi, its tail thrashing about and sending debris and dust into Rahi. Very soon this created a deep canyon that filled up with water, leaving Rahi stranded on a small island. Then thing got even worse when Te Puhuru cast another spell making it really cold.

Namu the eagle hugged Rahi tightly to keep him warm and at that very moment Rahi stared up at the sky, to see the seven stars. Rahi knew that his father had cast a spell to build Te Ara an ice bridge.

Once Rahi reached Te Marama, the sun appeared and Rahi joined back with his iwi and begun his pursuit  of tiara's captures. They offered the kidnappers  safe passage for Tiara's return and their surrender. Soon enough they admitted defeat and exited their homes along with Tiara. But still Te Puhuru stayed inside the mountain and was blasted into space creating havoc.

Olympics medal tallies

New Zealand and Australia are currently having an intense war on who can get the most most gold medals. NZ are currently on 3 gold medals and Aussie are on 5 medals. Australia were disappointed that they were not able to stay with GBR, but then announced  they would try beat NZ.

overall china are leading with 34 gold and USA with 30 gold. Overall new zealand have 10 medals and are sitting in 16th.
So I wonder who win, who do you think will win?

Mornings

"Get up!" Mum yelled from my bedroom doorway. I let out a long tired groan. She stormed to the end of my bomb site of a room and swished away the curtains, revealing light cascading into my room. I took refuge under my duvet, trying to blink away the colorful spots now forming on my eyes. My eyes peeked out of the shadowed duvet taking a quick glance at the time, my eyes shot wide open, it's already 8:10! I athletically leaped out of bed, slipped a pair of new track pants, a yellow t-shirt and a new pair of Nike shoes. I carefully dodged the obstacles scattered across the floor.

I raced out the door with a flourish of pace, almost halfway down the gravel driveway, I realized I hadn't got my bag or anything.

Scowering through the cupboards then my eyes locked onto a packet of SKOFFS, I shot my arm of like a bullet and stuffed them in my bag. I muttered to myself, "Am I forgetting anything?" my Mum glared at me expectingly "What?" I said "Cross country!" she yelled. My eyes widened, the words went over and over swirling around my frantic brain. "Oh crap," I blurted out.

Matariki designs

To celebrate Matariki, our class are working on an art project. Matariki signifies the new year for Moari people. If you loo into the night sky on a clear night around June or may you might find Matariki. My top third are 6 korus. This third represents new growth. The korus represent my famil tree. The first 2 korus are my parents and the next four are me, my brother, my sister and my fish.

Now for the middle section. The 5 korus represent me and my family in a boat meaning we stay together. The lines represent my favorite things. The first line is my iPod, the second line is football, the third line is cricket and the fourth line is my best friend.

Matariki is the third and final section of this panel. For this section I've chosen a Maori kowhaiwhai that you would see in a marae. This is not just a pattern, it signatures new year and new beginning. So that's my Matariki panel. I hope that you have learnt something from this and remember to set your alarm clock early to catch Matariki.

Boys school football squad

As Mr Rickard walked into pouakai territory, all contestants that trialed for the Tawa intermediate football team, were nervously waiting for the results. I stood on the bench outside Room 14, my legs slightly shaking.  The results would be published on the window, by Mr Rickard, he strode over to the dirty window he slowly and dramatically squashed the blue tack against the window, every single person was pushing and shoving to find out the results. My eyes scanned down the list like laser and there it was, my name Lachie Hill. I let out a huge sigh and placed a smile on my face. I had made into the squad.

Cross Country

Peeert! the whistle blew signaling the start of the race, with the spit of Mr O.C. travelling through it. It was time. Everyone raced off with a huge lunge of power with their legs. I was in the first row and had dropped several places but was still hopeful for the top ten.

We had just finished the block run and were on our way for the rest of the painstaking course. Everyone slowly jogged to the top of the hill, some people had already worn down to a walking pace jog. But I ignored them and keep jogging.

I had now returned to the school grounds and sprinting my way to the finish line I zoomed round the corner and with one last push of my near to death legs I went for the finish line. I was done

Pre season match vs karori

Gearing up for my teams second pre season match. All on Tawa K9's vs Karori

Athletics Day

It was a cold crisp day at Tawa Intermediate in Wellington, but not even this horrid weather could dampen the spirits of    hopeful kids, who dream of progressing through to the next round    of the athletics. All the students gradually packed into the quad waiting with anxious nerves, wondering what event they will be sent to first.

Me and all the other year 7 boys were sent to discus first on the college field. At first I wasn’t feeling very confident, but after I had my first uneasy throw, that feeling just left my insides. But just after my throw Miss Tito shouted out a measly 1... it shot through me like a metal bullet.

Shot put was next. When I heard this annoying news I let out a sigh and continued to our destination. there I was holding an anchor like metal, solid ball of defeat. I took a deep breath and pushed my scrawny arm through the frosty morning air, only to my disaray Mr Savill called out a disappointing 1.

Next in store for the hopeful year 7’s was long jump. YES! I thought to myself something I have a chance at doing well at. We then gather round the sand pit with Mr Skipworth. He started explaining the rules and what you can and can’t do. Soon enough everyone was lined up at a certain distance of about 20 metres. I was first. I slowly got off the mark but picking up speed quickly then I leaped just before the white line THUD! went my feet on the soft, dry sand. To my amazement he called out 3! the highest number you can get I jumped a decent distance of 3.55metres. I was so filled with happiness.

At the end of the day I wasn’t very excited with the results that I’ve produced during our tiring events. But I was still proud of myself.

And then I put it in to the oven at 180 degrees and then wait for 20 minutes.

And then this is the finishing product. 3 delicious well baked cakes

Yummy and good to eat.
